Couples in Owen Sound will pay more to get hitched this year.
Marriage Licence fees will increase to 145 dollars beginning February 1st.
City Clerk Marion Koepke says the 5 dollar increase isn’t substantial, considering license fees haven’t changed since 2006.
Approximately two hundred and thirty marriage licence’s are issued every year.
Four city staff members can provide civil ceremonies in Owen Sound.
Koepke says they can perform ceremonies in several locations including Harrison Park, Kelso Beach and the Bayshore Community Centre.
Civil ceremony fees including rehearsal, travel time, and witness fees will not increase.
The Clerk’s division also recommended a 5 dollar increase for a general business licence.
The motion to increase the business licence fee to 145 dollars was defeated 7 to 3.
Councillor Bill Twaddle says raising fees for business owners just doesn’t make sense during the current economic crisis.
