The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says with today’s low temperatures and wind chill values, it’s a food idea to keep your pets inside.
Veterinarian Doctor Kelly Volmers says dogs with thicker coats, like Huskys, will actually develop a thicker coat to protect them.
However. she says most dogs spend so much time indoors, during days like today, it’s best just to let them out a few minutes at a time through the day.
Volmers says during winter, it’s a good idea to keep the fur on your dogs’ feet kept cut short to avoid skin infections.
She also recommends a pet coat that keeps the chest and abdomen covered for dogs with less fur.
