Kincardine Council is supportive of giving Canadian-made products first consideration whenever the municipality makes a purchase.
Council has endorsed a motion at the committee level to support the principle of purchasing Canadian-made products whenever possible.
Passage of the resolution comes at the urging of the Grey-Bruce Labour Council which has been making the request to all local municipalities.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says organized labour isn’t the only backer of Canadian product policies. He says the Ontario Chamber of Commerce is also supportive.
He says that shows there is a general agreement between business and labour that the purchasing of Canadian-made items should be given priority.
Kraemer says he supports the idea of the municipality purchasing Canadian-made items whenever it makes sense.
