Sun Volts, the oldest and largest renewable energy dealer in the province, is installing solar power systems on a hundred homes in Halton Region.
Sun Volts owner Scott Henderson says the homes will be retro-fit with systems that will be tied to the power grid.
Homeowners can use the power themselves ..but through bulk buying …will also be able to sell it back to Hydro One at a premium rate of 42 cents per kilowatt hour.
Currently the market price in Ontario is just under 6 cents per kilowatt hour.
Henderson says the project has been spearheaded by the Halton Environmental Network as an incentive for homeowners to produce green power.
He says it costs between 11 and 25 thousand dollars to install the system and has great potential resale value.
The 100 solar panel systems will produce enough electricity to power about 80 homes for a year.
Similar initiatives are already working in Toronto, Guelph, Waterloo and Aurora.
