Sewage backed up into the basements of a small number of homes and lifted a street manhole cover.
Municipal staff responded by allowing some sewage to bypass the system and directly enter a stream.
Councillor Jim Hanna says while it isn’t something that should be done regularly, bypassing a sewage system is a justifiable practice in a situation like what took place in December.
He says the material released into the stream was “basically already treated.”
He says staff had to take the measure because of so much extra water resulting from the storm.
