Dr. Shazia Ambreen announced her resignation in November 2008 after being on a sick leave for several months.
In her resignation letter she says “Unfortunately the current working environment at the clinic made it impossible for me to provide regular appointments to my patients.”
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Gwen Gilbert has been involved in an ongoing dispute between Dr. Ambreen and board members of the Sauble Family Health Team.
Gilbert says they are pending litigation at this point and can’t discuss her reasons for leaving.
Mayor Gilbert says Dr. Ambreen’s resignation is a great loss to the community but adds the surrounding circumstances will make it difficult to recruit new doctors.
Gilbert says the turn of events will certainly put a strain on existing doctors in the area.
She says Dr. Ambreen will continue to work an emergency room shift, one day a week, at the Wiarton Hospital until the end of June.
Gilbert says Council has an active doctor retention and recruitment committee which will continue to locate new doctors for the area.
Dr. Ambreen operated her practise out of a health clinic on Main Street.
Gilbert says there is still one doctor left in the clinic who works part-time.
