The Grey Bruce Labour Council has made a presentation on the advantages of having a policy that gives priority to Canadian products and services when municipal purchasing decisions are made.
Councillors Guy Anderson and Gordon Campbell support the idea, and Councillor Randy Roppel is strongly in favour.
Roppel says it’s an issue worth looking at and is a “win win” situation.
He says it makes people stop and realize where their purchases originate from and how they can help the local economy.
Roppel says if nothing is done, Canada will be completely foreign-owned.
Roppel isn’t concerned about Canadian-made products possibly costing more. He says it’s worth doing if it provides jobs and income for Canadians.
Kincardine Council will discuss the idea of a Buy Canadian policy Wednesday’s meeting.
