Construction activity is strong in Huron-Kinloss.
Over fourteen million dollars worth of construction took place in the township during 2008 and 168 building permits were issued.
Forty new homes were built in Huron-Kinloss last year, down only by three from 2007.
Fewer commercial/industrial permits were issued, and that was only because 34 issued two years ago were for the turbines at the now-completed Ripley Wind Farm.
Mayor Mitch Twolan says the strong levels of residential construction were expected and he believes the same amounts of new single family homes being built will continue for the next couple of years.
Twolan says steady levels of home construction is good news for local contractors and tradespeople because it will keep them working.
The mayor says Huron-Kinloss’ location on the lakeshore makes it an attractive place for people to retire.
Twolan says the attraction of lakefront property ends up benefitting the township and its residents economically.
