A Mount Forest man is out on 10 thousand dollars bail after appearing in court in connection with a massive fraud investigation.
33 year old Kirk McWhirter is accused of embezzling nearly 2.6 million dollars while working as an accountant with a Guelph car dealership.
Guelph police Media Relations Sargent Doug Pflug says 18 months ago, Olympic Honda of Guelph contacted the fraud department about missing funds.
Plug says from 1999 to the end of 2006 money disappeared from company accounts.
McWhirter was arrested at the border when he was returning to Canada from the U.S on Tuesday.
He was picked up on a Canada-wide warrent and faces 3 counts of fraud over 5 thousand dollars, and one count of theft over 5 thousand dollars.
The amateur race car driver allegedly spent much of the money on clothing, car parts and travel.
McWhirter appeared in a Guelph court Wednesday and was released on bail.
He is back in court February 2nd.
