Not a good start to 2009 for the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.
Bayshore Broadcasting has learned the private company contracted to supply in-house physiotherapy services for patients at the Kincardine Hospital has walked away from their contract.
In a news release, CEO Paul Davies says the contract with PT Health was dissolved on a mutual basis last Friday.
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre is back offering in-patient physiotherapy.
The decision by the hospital board in August was made despite opposition from residents and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
OPSEU Campaigns Officer Rick Janson believes the contractor was concerned about its employees having access to union representation under the Public Service Labour Relations Transition Act.
That act would have given employees rights that could have resulted in a union vote down the road.
There had been plans for PT Health to move its clinic into the Kincardine hospital — but that is not happening.
Janson says the privatization plan was poorly thought out and the union warned the hospital of something like this happening.
