The new year is looking especially bright for the town of Hanover, in part because of new street lighting expected to be installed in the downtown core.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says that is one of the projects she is looking forward to being completed in 2009 which she says will make the down town brighter and give it a more upto date look.
Maskell also says the commercial boom on the towns east side will continue well into the new year with the construction of a larger and more modern liquor store.
She says besides being bigger, it will offer a wider range of products than the current downtown location.
Maskell admits moving the store from the downturn was a bit of a concern to council because of the traffic it generated, but the lack of parking was an issue for the LCBO.
She says beside the new Liquor store will be a larger and update Shoppers Drug Mart and in the near future, a Boston Pizza is expected to open up just to the east of that.
Maskell says one of the highlights of the past year was the completion of the design and planning for the proposed new coliseum for Hanover.
She says a lot of volunteers along with town staff put a lot of work into completing the design of the multi million dollar complex that will feature a new ice rink along with indoor recreation facilities like a walking track and exercise and meeting rooms.
Maskell says if Provincial and Federal funding is available, it is quite possible that actual construction of the new facility could get under way later this year.
