Grey County Warden Kevin Eccles has expanded on some of the issues he raised during his inaugural address after being acclaimed for a second term in the position.
He again has repeated how important is is for the Warden to serve a two year term so that there is some consistency in the position.
Eccles says that is especially important when promoting the Counties interests when dealing on a long term basis with both Provincial and Federal Cabinet Ministers.
He also says in this period of economic downturn it was good to hear that the Province is taking back several services that were downloaded to municipal governments like Ontario works, court security and Ontario drug benefit plan.
Eccles says that will free up a lot of funds that can be spent on County focused initiatives like infrastructure projects and reducing the tax burden on ratepayers.
He says they will also have to tighten their belts and get better costing on some of the projects they will be working on in the near future because of the downturn in the economy.
Eccles says with a drop in international oil prices, that may help with a reduction of asphalt costs for the completion of the Grey Bruce Line next year.
Another area he wants to see the County become involved in is waste management.
Eccles sees the County taking on the role of a facilitator helping other communities re direct their garbage to a proposed new waste to energy facility in Southgate that could haldle all the waste produced in Grey County and more.
