Flood waters over Owen Sound’s Harrison Park are slowly beginning to recede.
When heavy rain, run off and high winds caused the Mill Dam to back up over the weekend the Sydenham River overflowed its banks covering the island in water.
The city’s Director of Operations, John Johnston says at its peak yesterday there had to be a couple of feet submerging the island where the mini putt and paddle boats are located in the summer.
Those attempting to walk along the trails through that section of the park were also out of luck.
Johnston says he spoke with Conservation Authorities yesterday who told him the waters were now receding and they hope to see the island make an appearance in a few days.
Johnston says while the water on the island won’t cause much damage…they did have some problems in the Campground and pool area.
He says the creek that normally meandres through the camping area…. was more of a torrent and flooded the pool house.
He says they’d already winterized the building by pumping the water out of the drains but park attendants are back at it today before the temperatures go much lower.
