Pat Protomanni says six poles are broken on a main transmission line near the Douglas Point Transformer Station.
He says those poles are in an area that is very difficult to access so an alternative feed has to be set up.
Protomanni says Hydro One is hoping to switch Port Elgin and Southampton to a feeder line from Owen Sound so power can be restored to the affected communities.
Power will be returned in stages. Southampton should be back on shortly, Kincardine will follow at around 6:00pm, and Port Elgin will be back on at around 9:00 tonight.
Hydro One Spokesperson Danielle Gauvin says the number of their customers without power across Ontario has now gone up to over 200 thousand.
She says thousands of poles are broken.
