The municipality has waived all property taxes, building permit fees, and development charges for the four new units.
Mayor Mike Smith says second-stage housing is for women who have been in abusive relationships and are beginning to take the step of living independently again in a safe environment.
Smith says the project started about three years ago when the town offered to donate the land to Women’s House, which has been working ever since to secure funding so construction can start.
He says the municipality has always been supportive of the project and thought it would be a great use for the land right from the start when the donation was made.
