Georgian Bay Family Health Team Counsellor Alec Ibister says it’s also normal to feel a little bit “blue” during the holidays.
He says the most normal part of christmas blues is contrast between christmas imagery, and the inner and family realities people carry through the year.
Ibister says that can include experiences of loss, sadness, grief, and anxiety.
He says he’s not sure if there can be a christmas without sadness, and that hoping for christmas to bring relief, etc, means we all bring troubles into christmas.
He also sadness and loss is normal at this time of year…
Ibister says we can get pretty frantic trying to avoid the sense of loss/sadness, and that sadness is a normal part of all our experiences.
He says allowing the sense of loss to come up and have a moment in your heart is important.
