At Monday’s council meeting, Councillor Victoria Serda introduced a motion asking staff to look into having a facilitator hired to guide council through a visioning process.
Other councillors had other ideas.
Councillor Fred Schildroth wanted to be sure any discussion about future municipal decisions balanced what should be discussed in public or in closed session.
Consensus gathered that councillors would rather have a training session to make them more informed on how things like the capital budgets are compiled.
A separate motion passed asking for a training session.
Serda says council should be developing a broader vision for the future of the town.
She says it’s the job of councillors as elected officials to look at the big picture.
Serda says the town needs to have a session where everything is looked to guide future decisions.
She gave an example of the current process to see what sort of new aquatic facility Saugeen Shores should have, which has led to other suggestions from residents about what the municipality should also offer, such as a performing arts theatre.
Serda says each year during the budget process, ideas are brought to council about what should be done with capital or operations, but no meeting has ever been held about what direction council wants to take the town in.
