The biggest Christmas Hamper drive in the History of the Owen Sound Salvation Army is wrapping up.
Captain Colin Bain says 350 Christmas Hampers have been delivered, up from 270 a year ago.
Despite the economic slowdown, Bain says Owen Sound residents have given … BIG time to help them put together the turkey, ham, stuffing, snacks and treats for the less fortunate.
Those hampers are valued at 110 dollars and Captain Bain says they did not cut back on the size this year.
Although the Thanksgiving food drive was short of it’s goal, several groups stepped up and donated food or cash, including several schools in the community.
Meanwhile, Bain says volunteers will be busy on Christmas Day with some 240 tickets given out for the Army’s Christmas dinner.
That total is up from 169 a year ago.
The Salvation army Christmas dinner is at 365 14th street west at 1pm on December 25th.
The Christmas Kettle Campaign in Port Elgin and Owen Sound is going very well.
Bain says the 14 thousand dollar goal in Port Elgin has already been surpassed, and he is confident the goal in Owen Sound of 56 thousand dollars will also be reached this year.
