Rick Galbraith says the recent EQAO scores show that students are making strong advances in both reading and math and he wants to build on that.
He says these results for the Grade 6 and 9 students show that they are heading in the right direction in the Bluewater Board.
Galbraith says one area of concern that needs more work is in the Applied stream where the reading and math results are on the decline both at the board level and provincial level.
He says the board needs to carefully look at the programs and learning strategies they are using to support these students and see what has to be changed to make them feel engaged and successfully with their education.
Galbraith also is looking forward to working closely with the two first nation trustees on the board in developing programs that are aimed at aboriginal students and the needs of the native community.
