Grey Bruce Health Services is making history in diagnostic imaging.
Doctors can now send X-rays, CT scans, MRI’s and ultrasound images electronically to London hospitals.
Grey Bruce Health Services CEO and President Pat Campbell says its the first time in Canada hospitals in two different locations have been able to share images through a Picture Archiving Communication System.
The Picture Archiving Communication System is available at the Owen Sound hospital, Hanover and District Hospital and the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.
Campbell says this new technology will make life easier for patients travelling to London for treatment.
Patients receiving care in London will no longer have to bring their results with them on a disc because it will be sent electronically.
Doctors in London won’t repeat tests that were already conducted locally– which will eliminate unnecessary exposure to radiation.
Campbell says they hope to expand the project to include all the hospitals in the Southwest region.
