Minnie Jakes is the Chair of the town’s Accessibility Committee. She says the 10 thousand dollar donation comes as a surprise.
Jakes says the union’s donation is the first step in their fundraising campaign which will take place in 2009.
Gary Maguire, Chief Steward at Bruce A for the Power Worker’s Union says every year they ask for information from their members about local community projects that need support, and then they decide which ones they will assist.
Jakes says the accessible playground will be meant for use by children and adults with special needs, families, and will hopefully include a component so senior citizens can also get exercise.
