CAW Local 248 President Jack Cutting tells Bayshore Broadcasting news the plant will cease production on Monday.
As Bayshore Broadcasting told you earlier, officials had already moved up an announced March closure to January 31st.
Cutting says the decision to cease production now is the result of continued deterioration in the demand for glass on the markets.
Cutting says workers are shocked, but understanding of the situation – he says it doesn’t make sense to keep on making glass if there is nobody to buy it.
Workers who are no longer needed for production will still receive pay until January 31st.
Other workers will be kept on to complete shutting down and cleaning out the plant.
Cutting says he expects all 170 workers to be laid off by late February.
