If you fracture a hip in Grey Bruce — chances are good you will get a very timely surgery.
The Grey Bruce Health Network is reporting performance indicators for the care delivery system for the first time.
Grey-Bruce Regional Health Centre VP Maureen Solecki says they now have results for fractured hip surgery wait times.
Solecki says the standard is for the surgery to happen within two days – and she’s pleased to report the standard was met in all fractured hip cases in 2007/2008.
The Network also noted people get the surgery within two days whether they show up at the Owen Sound hospital or any other hospital within Grey Bruce.
They say that is very impressive, since it means working out transfers and finding available beds.
There is one area where the Network would like to see some improvement.
Solecki says wait times for access to a psychiatrist in Grey Bruce are not acceptable.
Over 50 per cent of patients waited more than 30 days for a consultation in 2007/2008.
Solecki says the recruitment of an additional psychiatrist next year should help reduce those wait times.
