Principal Dan Hobler says the past two years, the school has been home to a hybrid system.
Senior grades were on the semester system where subjects were taken four at a time while junior grades continued on the traditional system where all eight subjects were taught at the same time.
Hobler says parents, school staff and students have been studying the two systems and it was decided the school would be entirely semestered starting next fall.
Hobler says neither system produced better academic results over the other but the semester system provided newer opportunities such as Bruce Power Co-op and Military Co-op programs.
He says there was an increase in the number of students taking the co-op programs.
He says there will still be some who will be against the semester system next fall but the research shows it’s the system of choice at KDSS.
Hobler says the change to a total semester system will not affect staffing at the school at all.
