Kevin Eccles was sworn in for his second term as Warden during the Inaugural Session last night.
Grey Highlands Deputy-Mayor David Fawcett nominated Eccles.
Fawcett says Eccles’ efforts as Grey County Warden have been fair and non judgemental over the past year.
Southgate Mayor Don Lewis was also nominated for the position — but withdrew from the election.
During his Warden’s address, Eccles said he looks forward to working for the ratepayers of Grey County for another year.
County Clerk Sharon Vokes says the Warden’s position can be very demanding, and requires long hours.
The Warden deals with various county issues, including Ontario Works, Municipal roads, long term care, land use planning and social housing.
Eccles says he already has a few big goals in mind for next year.
He wants to move forward with the County’s official plan, decide if Grey County will get involved with waste management, work on a governance review and develop the economy.
Eccles’ credits Bob Pringle for setting the bar during his two year term as Grey County Warden.
For decades, It has been a tradition for Grey County Wardens to only serve a one year term in council.
Eccles says having a Warden serve two years allows for more progress to be made within the County.
Five County Councillors will sit on the Warden’s Committee.
Grey Highlands Deputy-Mayor David Fawcett, Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell, Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot, Southgate Deputy-Mayor Brian Milne, and Owen Sound Councillor Arlene Wright will join the 2009 committee.
Warden Eccles and his committee will get to work in the upcoming weeks.
Eccles will have his first County Council meeting of his second term in January.
