A new branch of the Lions Club has been created in the town.
President of the Hanover Lions Club Dianne Patton says their charter night was held on November 21st, and about 130 people attended from across the district.
Patton says the Palmerston Lions Club came recruiting to Hanover in September.
She says they held a couple of meetings, and when they had 20 members in place, they were legally able to form their own club.
The number of members has already jumped to 41.
Patton believes the Hanover Lions Club will be able to do a lot for the community, and she adds they are going to concentrate on the new arena and community centre that is being planned.
The group meets once a month at the Hanover Lawn Bowling clubhouse.
Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organisation, with nearly 1.3 million members.
