Residents living in the Howdenvale and Red Bay areas are concerned about a plan to establish an arterial road through the community.
The road would connect Bruce Road 13 near Oliphant to Highway 6 in Ferndale.
Bruce County is considering whether to make some upgrades to the West Road in the former Albemarle Township as part of their Official Plan.
The discussion came up at a special meeting on Phase Two of Bruce Countys Five Year Review of their Official Plan Amendment.
There were 6 people who came to voice their opposition to the road plans.
Bruce County Engineer Brian Knox says County Council is allowing staff to meet with the residents to address some of the issues.
He says the meeting would be worthwhile in the decision making process.
Knox says it is an interesting problem that is being presented.
He says all parties will be sharing their opinions of what the objective should be.
Listowel native Douglas Pratt owns a cottage in the Howdenvale area.
He says the any changes to the road will see traffic be unnecessarily directed through the area.
He says it will be devastating for the recreational areas where there are campgrounds and small children playing.
He says it will not be a safe place to be if the plan goes through.
Pratt suggests connecting Bruce Road 13 and Highway 6 at Quarry Road allowing traffic to go around Howdenvale and Red Bay.
He says the connection will be just as good as the one the County is proposing.
