The City of Owen Sound’s Parking Review Committee is looking at options for Downtown parking.
The Committee brought forth recommendations at a public meeting last night.
The Parking Review Committee is recommending free parking be eliminated from the downtown.
However, if the recommendations goes through, there would be free parking every Saturday.
Free parking would also be available through the month of February and every Saturday in the month of December.
Linda Stemler, Owner of Tiffani Layne feels parking costs are driving shoppers away from downtown.
Karen McRea, Owner of the Riverside Cafe says free parking every Saturday in December is not enough, and would like to see free parking the entire month.
The Parking Review Committee also recommended seasonal bike parking, and a 2 hour time limit for main street parking.
The Parking Review Committee will meet again on December 4th to review the comments and concerns made by downtown business owners and members of the public.
The recommendations be reviewed at City Council’s Pre Budget meeting on Friday, December 5th
Council will be able to accept, reject or alter any of the recommendations.
