Getting employers and trainees on the same page is the focus of sessions taking place in Owen Sound today.
The Bruce-Grey Huron Perth Georgian Triangle Training Board is holding “Trends, Opportunities & Priorities Consultation 2008” this morning.
Executive Director Gemma Mendez-Smith says earlier this month, a discussion was held about issues affecting the local labour market and three key issues were identified.
Mendez-Smith says the first issue they identified is the gap between low levels of education and advancing technologies.
Also identified is a lack of accessible, appropriate, and affordable training which is creating a barrier to continuous learning.
Finally, they identified a lack of connection between business and education which creates a barrier for young people to get business or industry training.
Mendez-Smith says today’s session will try to come up with actions to address those issues.
Smith says a broad range of people with a mandate for local labour-force development will be attending today’s session.
The event is taking place at Georgian College this morning from 9 until 11 AM.
