The county completed a two-year Premier Ranked tourism study — a self-assessment tool that was developed by the Province of Ontario.
The study analyzed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the tourist areas and determines what action is needed to promote it better.
Tourism Manager Chris Hughes says the study is a document that puts everything on the table.
He says the industry offers a number of ideas and concepts to the County.
The County in turn narrows it down a manageable number where they can move those ideas forward.
Hughes says the objective of the study is to bring some gains for the operators.
He says better communications would provide them with an immediate impact while other ideas would require more planning and investment.
Despite the economic downturn, Hughes feels the tourism business in Bruce County is on a very stable ground.
He says operators have told him that 2008 was not a bad year compared to 2007 where they say was a great year.
Hughes says with the Canadian dollar losing ground versus the U.S. dollar, he hopes that more American visitors will take advantage of that and come up to the region.
