A warning from the Grey Bruce branch of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs in the region.
Operations Director Karen Buratynski says while all this snow early in the season is great for the sport…. sledders should keep their machines parked until the trails can open.
She says the snow arrived before club volunteers had a chance to get all the signage up and hazards cleared.
Buratynski says there could be quite a few hazards hidden under the snow.
There are also more than 3 thousand km of trails that run through private property …much of it farmland.
She says some farmers still have crops in the ground and livestock in the fields.
Buratynski suggest snowmobilers, instead take this time to make sure their machines and equipment are ready for the upcoming season.
Riding on closed federation trails is illegal and anyone found doing it can be charged with trespassing.
Buratynski says she has no idea how much longer it’ll be before the trails are opened.
