Huron-Bruce’s rookie Conservative MP Ben Lobb took the riding into the Conservative ranks in the October 14th election and says he hit the ground running.
Lobb says both his constituency office in Goderich and his Parliament Hill office were set up within a few days of his being elected.
He credits his staff for their organizational skills in getting down to business so quickly.
Lobb says even though he’s a Member of Parliament, he had to endure what so many air travellers have to put up with when flying to Ottawa a week ago.
Lobb says he arrived in Ottawa from the Conservative policy convention in Winnipeg okay but his luggage didn’t.
Lobb says he had to race out and buy a new suit because he had only a few hours to report to Parliament for an orientation session for new MPs.
Lobb says stepping into the Commons for the first time was an unforgettable experience.
Lobb says he was struck by the fact he was actually on the floor of the House where so much of our nation’s history has been shaped.
He says he drank in the sights of the green seats and carpet and the stained-glass windows in the ceiling of the House.
Lobb’s first day in the Commons was a short one — he and his fellow MPs had to report to the Senate Chamber for the Speech from the Throne.
He finally got in on the action the following day when the Speech was debated in the House.
