Repairs and deck replacement to South Mile Drive Bridge at Harrison Park in Owen Sound have been approved by city council.
City Manager Jim Harrold says contractors will be notified of the approval right away, and they are hoping to complete the repairs by the middle of December.
The bridge is located at the south end of the campground and is used year round by pedestrians, cyclists and cross country skiers.
The cities’ Parks and Open Space Division had to close the bridge late September due to safety concerns.
Harrold says this is just one of many projects at Harrison Park this year.
In June the city replaced the Chinese bridge with a new foot bridge.
Upgrades to the park’s electrical system, and a new playground are also in the works.
The city has spent a total of 425 thousand dollars this year on improvements to the park.
Harrold says the projects aren’t about transforming the park, but preserving it for years to come.
