About 70 people turned up at a public meeting last night on the future of the facility after it was found to have some structural deficiencies.
Engineers say the 50 year old roof won’t be able to handle a heavy snow load.
Chatsworth Mayor Howard Greig says most in attendance last night recognize that the facility has likely served its purpose and it doesn’t make sense to spend a quarter of a million dollars to improve a structure that’s deficient.
Greig says there seemed to be a strong consensus on how to move forward.
He says their joint committee, made up of members of council, the Board of Management and the Curling Club, will study their options and likely return with a report in March.
It has been suggested that the municipality build an entirely new complex that would serve both Williamsford and Chatsworth.
For now, posts will be erected inside the arena to make is sound enough for the Curling Club this season.
The hockey season however has been cancelled.
