The Christmas season is officially underway in downtown Port Elgin.
The weather was perfect and everyone was in a good mood as the traditional Christmas tree at the corner of Goderich and Green Streets was turned to mark the beginning of the season.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith told the crowd it was all about the children as he called on two youngsters to flip the magic switch that turned on the colourful Christmas lights.
Last night most merchants stayed open late to help celebrate the day as well.
Mayor Smith said it’s important for residents to shop local because it’s good for the economy and pretty well everything can be found here.
When asked what he hoped to get from Santa this year, he suggested some new woodworking tools would be nice.
We’ll see.
Next Thursday, a similar event will take place in Southampton for their Sparkles night
