More than 70 youth and adults from across Bruce and Grey Counties are meeting today and tomorrow to explore strategies for healthier communities.
The Hanover Youth Roots committee is hosting the summit with Grey Bruce Health Unit Youth Advisor Jason Cranny.
He says they want to look at ways at how young people can be more active in their local communities.
Cranny notes fewer and fewer youth are coming back here after College and University and local Councils need to talk to young people to find out why.
Cranny says the politicians also need to take youth seriously and get them involved in healthy discussions — and not just have them at the table for looks.
The guest speaker is Laurie Jo Wallace from the Medical Foundation in Boston.
She will lead them through various activities so they can bring activities back to their communities to support youth leadership and involvement.
Hanover, the Blue Mountains, Saugeen Shores and Owen Sound have already formed youth coalition groups.
There are also representatives from Kincardine, Chesley, Meaford, Wiarton and Lion’s Head who are looking at forming the same groups.
Tomorrow’s session will only include the youth at the summit.
