The building will have a new geo-thermal heating system for the basement thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell and Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch came by the community centre yesterday to deliver a 45 thousand-dollar grant to the Municipalities of Brockton and West Grey.
President of the Elmwood Chamber of Commerce — Rick Monk — says it is great to receive the money from the OTF.
He says it gives their funding a boost but they are still 12 thousand dollars short of their goal.
Monk says the basement floor of the building was never insulated which made patrons feel cold.
He says once they tore up the floor they added styrofoam insulation.
He says with the new heating system in place they will have no trouble renting out the hall during the winter months.
Monk says the building was built back in 1968 and the furnace had been in place since 1990.
He says it was time to replace the unit with a more efficient one.
Monk says since the heat rises, it will also warm up the upper level of the community centre.
