The old King Edward Hotel in Shallow Lake is ready for new occupants.
Local businessmen Rob and Doug Shouldice have turned the former 1900 hotel and Shallow Lake legion into a six unit, newly refurbished condominium.
Rob Shouldice says they weren’t out to make money on this project, rather it was a labour of love.
He says this was the family’s way of giving back to the community that gave them their roots.
Shouldice is a strong supporter of saving historical buildings if they’re structurally sound.
He points to the Paisley Inn and the Queens Hotel in Owen Sound as examples of buildings that were likely past saving.
The condos are completely accessible with an elevator and heated walkways in the winter.
Shouldice says they’re about a thousand square feet — so not really geared towards family living but perfect for seniors, individuals or couples.
They start at 200 thousand dollars.
