The communities of Port Elgin and Kincardine are about to do their part in helping replenish the supply of blood for Canadian Blood Services.
Speaking on Soundingboard Canadian Blood Services Communications Specialist Veronica Magee said they aren’t out of the woods yet.
Just last week the service was down to just two days on hand for the most common blood types.
Canadian Blood Services considers four days supply as their bare minimum.
Magee urges everyone who can to make arrangements to give blood.
There is a blood donor clinic in Kincardine tomorrow at the Davidson Centre from 1 to 8pm.
Port Elgin’s clinic will be held Thursday at the CAW Education Centre from 12:30 to 7:30.
Magee says the community support for blood giving is overwhelming in Kincardine with officials realizing 110% of their collection objective even before this next clinic.
In Port Elgin, there are some challenges and their collection object stands at 94%.
Magee says they hope to collect 172 units from the Kincardine clinic this time and 160 units from Port Elgin.
She reminds potential donors to get plenty of rest the night before and come to the clinic hydrated.
In other words have a couple of glasses of water before attending and make sure you’ve had something to eat.
Magee says the donation itself will take 7 to 10 minutes with a 5 to 10 minute rest period afterwards.
