Beach News asked a few of the spectators to share what Remembrance Day means to them.
One man said it is a time to reflect on how life was for parents and grandparents who lived through war.
A woman said both of her parents were veterans of World War Two and they always taught her to remember the sacrifices made by people who fought and didn’t return home.
Another woman said history teaches us about mistakes we shouldn’t make again, and Remembrance Day is a time to think about those mistakes.
“If we don’t look back and realize what we’ve done, we’re going to pay that price again,” said another man.
The ceremony at the Port Elgin Cenotaph was followed by a church service and veteran’s luncheon.
