It’s time for Grey County to step up to the plate as far as waste management is concerned.
That is the view of Owen Sound Councillor Bill Twaddle who says in this day of reduced waste management options the county should be involved in the long term planning of what should be done with our trash.
He says that he is not talking about curbside pickup or the day to day operation of waste management, but taking a leadership role in developing a county wide strategy on how various communities should dispose of their waste in the future.
Twaddle says in fact both Bruce and Grey County’s should be involved in this initiative.
He says as much as people don’t like the idea of burying their garbage, there really is no other option available at this time that is affordable or even sustainable for a region this size.
He says that is a short term solution to the garbage problem.
Twaddle says in order to deal with the ongoing garbage issue, both the county and area municipalities should be examining just what waste to energy projects would be viable for this region.
