Bill and Marlene Pace were presented with a Regional Tourism Marketing Partnership Award at Wednesday night’s council meeting.
Bill has long collected pieces of Kincardine’s history and his wife has helped him organize it all.
When their friend, retired York University professor Jim Cameron, saw the collection, he convinced them it should be shared with the community.
While Cameron has since passed away, Bill and Marlene put together posters detailing the history of stores along Queen Street.
While Bill says there was no official walking tour organized, the posters are starting to create that on their own as people stroll around the historic street.
The project has even made it into the Guelph Tribune as an impressive tourist attraction.
Bill says it feels very nice to be recognized for his dedication to Kincardine’s history.
He says he also likes knowing that more people are now interested in the town’s past.
In 2003, Bill received an Ontario Heritage Award for his archives of photographs.
