The Kincardine BIA is proposing a plan to make sure the downtown remains vibrant and healthy.
Volunteer Jacqueline Faubert presented the Downtown Provitalization Plan to Council on Wednesday.
She explains Kincardine’s downtown is a ‘gem’, but measures need to be taken to ensure it stays that way.
Faubert says things like highway development can threaten a vibrant downtown core and the Provitalization Plan is a proactive way to make sure businesses can remain competitive.
She explains there are many things that make Kincardine’s downtown great, such as its lakeside setting, a variety of services geared to quality of life, and unique retail experiences.
But she says weaknesses also exist – a Stakeholders Forum recognized signage as the number one weakness for downtown Kincardine.
The Provitalization Plan outlines four main recommendations that cover management, economic development, marketing, and social and cultural issues.
The BIA is asking Council for a letter of support – the next step will be to compile and submit funding applications.
