Bruce Power’s plan to add years to the operating life of Bruce A Unit 3 has received a significant boost thanks to a successful maintenance program on the unit’s fuel channels.
Spokesperson John Peevers says the company hoped crews could shift more than 60 fuel channels back to their original position that have elongated over the years of high temperatures, radiation and pressure.
But the work went so smoothly on the 750 megawatt unit, that 80 channels have already been moved and that number should hit 98 when the outage ends in a couple of weeks.
Peevers says it means the life of Unit 3 has been extended now to 2010.
He says a recently completed boiler inspection program on Unit 4 had great results as well and the operating life of that unit is now 2015.
Peevers says the employees of Bruce have done stellar work.
He says it’s this kind of work that will continue to bring good things to Bruce Power.
Bruce Power also continues to successfully advance its work on Units 1 and 2 and it expects that these units will be placed back in commercial service in the first half of 2010.
