A prominent Owen Sound sportsman and businessman has passed away.
Roy James Leckie, known by everyone as “Red” Leckie died on Saturday.
Leckie played for the Owen Sound Mercurys from 1952 until 1957.
He was also heavily involved in the community.
Leckie was a proud member of the Silver C’s Service Club, the Ramoca Shrine Club, St. George’s Masonic Lodge, the Crescent Athletic Club, the Owen Sound Kiwanis Club, the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame and the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Lorraine, and three children, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell says Leckie’s tireless contribution to the city in both business and sport will be missed.
Visitation for Red Leckie will be held at the Breckenridge Ashcroft Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 PM at the Funeral Home.
