Fisherman’s Park in Southampton will have a new name before this day is out.
No, it is not a Halloween prank but a recognition of a man whose life was devoted to the outdoors and in particular, fishing.
Saugeen Shores Community Services Director Mike Myatt says the park will be re-named the Grant Ferris Fisherman’s Park.
Myatt says before Mr. Ferris passed away, he was an active member in a number of organizations involving the outdoors, including the Lake Huron Fishing Club, Friends of MacGregor Point Provincial Park, the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
Many may recognize Grant Ferris as the outdoors columnist for years with the Owen Sound Sun Times and the Shoreline Beacon.
Myatt says a re-dedication ceremony and a plaque unveiling will take place at the park, just east of Southampton at 12:30 this afternoon.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
