In one case, a woman near Owen Sound was called by someone offering the extended warranty on her new vehicle.
The price quoted was almost 31-hundred dollars and the caller asked for the woman’s VISA card number.
But she didn’t provide any info and called the OPP.
Police believe someone has got hold of customer records and is using them as a foot in the door to steal further information.
