Strathcona school is empty and is currently being offered by the Bluewater school board to other school boards and the city to see if there is any interest in using the facility.
Manager of Plant services for the board, Al Gibb says the school was deemed surplus by the Accomodation review committee in June of this year, and students were moved into other schools in the city on September 1st.
At one time, Strathcona housed 400 students but it’s age and declining enrolment in the system led to the committee recommendation to close it.
No final price has been put on the school on Owen Sound’s east side with appraisals planned for the beginning of the new year.
Gibb says there has been some interest in the old school expressed by individuals, but under Ministry of education guidelines they don’t qualify until the school is on the public market in January.
