Bayshore Broadcasting News has learned twenty staff at the Grey Bruce Health Unit have received layoff notices.
The 20 staff include Program Assistants and I-T personnel.
But the Health Unit says some of them will be hired back under new job classifications.
Media Relations Co-ordinator Drew Ferguson says the 20 staff have received working layoff notices — meaning they will stay on the job for five to eight weeks.
Ferguson says they will negotiate new job classifications with OPSEU and then some of the same staff will be offered jobs.
Ferguson couldn’t say how many staff would be offered jobs — but he believes the majority will return to work.
Ferguson says the layoffs were anticipated a year ago as part of the consolidation of their two offices into one new building.
He claims OPSEU was notified of the proposal last summer and agreed to move forward with negotiations.
Those negotiations are expected to take place early in November.
