The spat between cottagers leasing land owned by Huron Kinloss at Poplar Beach now is in the hands of lawyers.
On Soundingboard during Local Government Week Huron Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan told us a delegation of cottagers was at the council meeting on Monday –some of whom were represented by a solicitor.
Twolan said because a lawyer is now involved, they have referred the matter to the municipal lawyer and further discussion of the subject is at a standstill.
Without getting into the “bread and butter” of the issue, Twolan said there are a majority of people who don’t want to see the cottages at the beach but obviously the owners do want to see them there.
He said the issue was put out to give the public a heads-up of what was happening at the beach property.
Huron Kinloss council has asked the township administrator to start to take the necessary steps to have the leases terminate by September, 2010.
According to the resolution that means cottagers would have to remove all buildings on the land by the end date of the lease.
No further comment was made on the issue.
Meanwhile, Twolan says they’re pleased with the municipality’s growth.
According to recently released assessment figures, Huron Kinloss ranks third fastest growing community in Bruce County.
Twolan says the majority of residential assessment is along the lakeshore where most want to locate but he does see some good builds in Ripley and Lucknow as well.
Kincardine was recognized as the fastest growing municipality and South Bruce Peninsula is second.
Saugeen Shores came in fifth.
